Marie Edessa Langlois Prarizzi, 88, a former long-time Hurley resident, died Saturday, April 7, 2007, at St. Francis Home in Fond du Lac. Marie was born August 18, 1918, in North Fond du Lac, the daughter of the late George and Marie (Marcoe) Langlois. She was a 1936 graduate of North Fond du Lac High School and graduated from St. Agnes School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1943. She then enlisted in the U. S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II, serving her country in China, Burma and India. Returning to the United States at Battle Creek Veterans Hospital in Battle Creek, Mich., she was discharged from service as a captain in June 1947. On February 15, 1947, she married John B. Prarizzi in Battle Creek. The couple then resided in Hurley. John preceded her in death on May 17, 2005. Marie worked as a nurse at Runstrom's Hospital in Ironwood for several years, and at Grand View Hospital for over 25 years, serving as Director of Nursing Services for 20 years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley and its' Council of Catholic Women, Hurley American Legion Post 58, Aurora Athletic Club Ladies Auxiliary, the Christian Women's Association, a life member of the Grand View Hospital Auxiliary, an active member of the Gogebic Community Chorus, and a charter member of Eagle Bluff Golf Club in Hurley. She is survived by two sisters, Ruth Lichtenwald of Fond du Lac, and Sister Magdalena Langlois, C.S.A. of Mobile, Ala.; four brothers, Joseph (Pat) Langlois, Eau Claire, Edward (Irma) Langlois and Lawrence Langlois, both of Rhinelander, and James (Donna) Langlois, Naples, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Irene Garreau, of West Allis; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly because she first loved and shared herself with them. Besides her parents and husband, Marie was preceded in death by a sister, Marion Potter, and an infant sister, Cecilia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, April 18, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Michael Hayden, presider. Rite of Committal will be held at the church, where full military rites will be accorded by the Hurley American Legion Post 58 Honor Guard. Luncheon will follow in the parish hall. Spring burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley. Friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
