Obituary

Marian E. Swanson, 79, of 136 E. Oak St., Ironwood, died Friday, March 23, 2007, in Hurley. The former Marian Zuchowski was born Dec. 9, 1927, in Hurley, daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Younger) Zuchowski, attended St. Mary's Grade School, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1945. She then was employed in a government position in Washington, D.C. for a short time. On Oct. 7, 1946, she was married to Marvin K. Swanson in Hurley. They then made their home in Ironwood. Marvin preceded her in death on Sept. 28, 2005. Marian was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood and the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the former Holy Trinity Altar Society, and both the Resurrection and Mixed Choirs at Holy Trinity and Our Lady of Peace. She was an avid reader, enjoyed knitting, especially afghans, and was very involved in her children's education and school activities. An enthusiast of local stock car racing years ago, she drove in Powder Puff races at the Gogebic County Fairgrounds. Surviving are two daughters, Sharon (Jim) Tregembo, Los Lunas, N.M., and Carol (Ben) Barreras, Trabuco Canyon, Calif.; two sons, Kenneth, Napa Valley, Calif., and Michael (Jackie), Juneau, Alaska; five grandchildren, James (Felicia) Swanson, Juneau, Michelle (Calvin) Allen, Albuquerque, N.M., Brian (Venessa) Tregembo, Los Lunas, David Gutierrez, Iraq, and Adam Barreras, Trabuco Canyon; three great-grandchildren, Calvin and Kyra Allen, and Jaxson Tregembo; a brother, Robert (Judy) Zuchowski, Cle Elum, Wash.; two sisters, Rita (Rudy) Semo, Ironwood, and Lucille Terpstra, Kenosha, Wis.; numerous nieces and nephews; and sisters-and-brothers-in-law, Evelyn Zuchowski, Bellevue, Wash., Ann Ulasich, Kenosha, Dale Budreau, Mille du Lac, Minn., Edward and Frieda Koling, Kenosha, Clarence and Barbara Swanson, Waukegan, Ill., Diane Durkee, Rice Lake, Wis., and Shirley Bowman, Zion, Ill. Besides her parents and husband, Marian was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence, Walter and Gerald Zuchowski; and five sisters, Ardel Budreau, Donna Koling, Lois Zuchowski, Helen Aldrich, and Eleanore Borgo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 28, at noon, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Darryl Pepin, presider. Rite of Committal will be in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall. Spring inurnment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley. Relatives and friends may call in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church beginning at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
