Marian J. Kafka, 90,
a lifelong Ironwood resident, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, in
Ironwood. She was born July 23, 1921, in Ironwood,
daughter of the late Walter and Hannah (Barnes) Kafka, attended Ironwood
schools, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1939. She then
attended Gogebic Community College. Marian was employed by Michigan Bell Telephone
Co. in Ironwood for 33 years, retiring in 1979. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic
Church in Ironwood and the former St. Michael's Catholic Church, Telephone
Pioneers of America, and a former member of the Grand View Hospital
Auxiliary. Surviving are a niece, Cathy Haley, Mundelein,
Ill.; two nephews, Charles (Teresa) Haley, Antioch, Ill., and Robert (Pamela)
Haley, Mundelein; grand-nieces, Amy, Lisa, Elizabeth, Sarah and Emily Haley; and
grand-nephews, Luke, Charles and Robert Haley. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death
by a brother, William J. Kafka, and sister, Anna Mae Haley. Out of respect for Marian's wishes, cremation
has taken place. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Jan.
8, at 2 p.m., preceded by visitation at 1 p.m., at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral
Home, 305 N. Lowell St., In Ironwood, with Marian's nephew, Charles Haley,
officiating. Private
