Marian L. Cayer, 88, of Hurley,
died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in
Hurley. The former Marian Filek was born Dec. 31,
1924, in Amasa, Mich., the daughter of the late John and Rose (Walleck) Filek.
She attended Southside Grade School in Hurley and graduated from Lincoln High
School in 1942. She was married to Milton Cayer on June 4, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Hurley, by the late Monsignor Michael Prock. Milton preceded her in death on
Feb. 28, 2003. Marian was employed in earlier years as a
clerk at the Ben Franklin Store in Hurley and in the meat department at
Erspamer's Super Market. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Hurley where she was formerly active in church volunteer work. A kind and
compassionate woman, she always helped others. She was an excellent cook and
baker, and enjoyed crossword and word search puzzles, playing bingo and going to
the casino. She especially loved her family. Surviving are a daughter, Paulette Oja,
Ironwood, Mich., and son, John (Cathy), Naperville, Ill.; seven grandchildren,
Pam Udd (Kurt Harvey), Ramsay, Mich., Jill (Kurt) Johnson, Jackson Hole, Wyo.,
Heather (Matt) Evans, Victor, Idaho, Aaron (Veronica) Oja, St. Paul, Minn., and
Jack, Sarah and Kelly Cayer, all of Naperville; five great-grandchildren, Hannah
and Madeline Udd, Ava and Collin Evans and Torin Johnson; and numerous nieces
and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Marian was
preceded in death by a sister, Annarene Schlais. Per her wishes, cremation has taken
place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Saturday, Aug. 10, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's
Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Frank Kordek OFM, celebrant. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in
St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley. Lunch will be served in the parish hall
