Margaret A. "Marge" Wainio, 87, of Winchester and Hurley, Wis., died Monday morning, Dec. 15, 2008, in Hurley. The former Marge Pisco was born March 30, 1921 in Ironwood, daughter of the late George and Julia (Hletko) Pisco. She attended Ironwood schools and graduated from L.L. Wright High School with the Class of 1939. She was married to Sulo O. Wainio on June 7, 1947 at the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ironwood. Sulo preceded her in death on May 26, 1992. Marge was a member of St. Rita's Catholic Church in Presque Isle and its Altar Society, the Winchester Women's Club, the VFW Women's Auxiliary Post 2992 in Des Plaines, Ill., and the Military Order of the Cootoes Auxiliary Post 35 in Hurley. The Order of the Cooties is a selected group of VFW members who provide aid and comfort to hospital bound veterans throughout the United States. She was the past Illinois, Military Order of the Cooties grand president, and held several national positions in the Cooties. Surviving are her daughter, Lisa Wainio, of Rockville, Md., and her son, Sulo (Joan), of Winchester; sisters, Betty Keris, Skokie, Ill., and Marion Harris, Glenview, Ill.; many nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Helen Ludquist, West Allis, and Alice Wainio of Minnesota. Besides her parents and husband, Marge was preceded in death by her son, George; her brothers, Joe, John and George; and her sisters, Pauline, Patricia, Ann and Helen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 20, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Darryl J. Pepin, celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall. Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Relatives and friends may call in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
