Obituary

Margaret R. Mukavitz, 84, of 612 E. McLeod Ave., Ironwood, died Thursday morning, June 18, 2009, in Ironwood. She was born Feb. 25, 1925, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Paul and Mary (Gorrilla) Mukavitz, attended local schools, and graduated from L.L. Wright High School in 1943. She was employed in Evanston, Ill. with Washington National Insurance Co. for six months, worked as secretary to Pat O'Donnell at O'Donnell's Style Shop in downtown Ironwood for six months, and was bookkeeper and office manager for Stilwill Heating in Ironwood for 37 years. She then worked at MFC First National Bank in Ironwood for 13 years, retiring as accounting clerk in Oct. of 1994. Margaret was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood and the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church, serving as treasurer of the former Holy Trinity Altar Society. She was an avid bowler and golfer in her younger years. Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews; and special friends, Polly and Carl Baron of Ironwood. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Lawrence, Paul, John, Louis, Rudy and Joseph Mukavitz; and sisters, Ann Lackovich, Frances Brack, Mary Basso, Louise Bishop and Claire Fetz. In accordance with Margaret's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Mass of Chrsitian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, June 23, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Darryl J. Pepin, celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Friends may call in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church one hour prior to Mass on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Our Lady of Peace Adopt-A-Student Program, 108 So.
