Obituary

Margaret G. McKevitt, 93, a former longtime Ironwood resident, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at the Episcopal Church Home in St. Paul, MN, where she had resided for the past several months.      The former Margaret Gamble was born Sept. 27, 1918, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Edward and Albertine (Ethier) Gamble, attended St. Ambrose Grade School, and graduated from St. Ambrose High School in 1936. She owned and operated The Vogue, a women's apparel store, in downtown Ironwood for several years.      Margaret was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood and a former member of the St. Ambrose Women's Guild, St. Joseph Circle, Ironwood Woman's Club, Grand View Hospital Auxiliary and the Auxiliary to Ironwood American Legion Post 5. She was an excellent bridge player and enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles.      On Jan. 21, 1947, she was married to Joe McKevitt at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood by the late Monsignor Nolan B. McKevitt. Joe survives in St. Paul.      Also surviving are five children, Mary Joe (John) Perry, Hyde Park, Mass., Susan McKevitt, St. Paul, Owen McKevitt, New York, Peggy McKevitt, St. Paul, and Steve McKevitt, Cleveland, Ohio; three grandchildren, Eduardo, Marco and Paul Perry, Hyde Park; a sister-in-law, Ruth McKevitt, Philadelphia; and numerous nieces and nephews.      Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Sister Ann Francis Gamble O.S.F.       Out of respect for Margaret's wishes, cremation has taken place.      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 26, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation in the St. Joseph Family Room at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Monsignor Jed Patrick, celebrant, and the Rev. Darryl Pepin,, con-celebrant/homilist.      Rite of Committal will take place in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall.      Private inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.   Online condolences may be given to Margaret's family at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.      Arrangements are entrusted to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood. .
