Obituary

Margaret A. LaClaw, 96, of Gile, died peacefully Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, with her beloved daughter and niece by her side, in Hurley.      The former Margaret Zanella was born May 22, 1916, in Gile, daughter of the late Guerino and Madeline (Mattea) Zanella, attended local schools, and graduated from Hurley High School in 1934.      She was married to Paul C. LaClaw on Oct. 18, 1941, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, by the late Rev. Peter F. Meyer. At the time of Paul's death on April 11, 2006, they had been married for 64 years.      Margaret was employed as bookkeeper at Bergquist Amusement Co. in Ironwood, Mich. for several years. Together with her husband, she owned and operated Paul's Bar in Gile for 32 years, retiring in 1980. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Hurley, enjoyed dancing in her youth, loved to sing, and was an avid reader. She especially enjoyed spending time with her sisters and family and friends over the years.      Surviving are her daughter, Diane LaClaw, Gile; sister, Genevieve Anderson, Tunnel Hill, Ga.; brother-in-law, Joseph Laclaw, West Bend; sisters-in-law, Mary (Ted) Brunelle, Ironwood, Helen Laclaw, Milwaukee, and Celia (Claude) Brozzo, Paoli, Ind.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.      Besides her parents and husband, Margaret was predeceased by a brother Virgil in infancy; and three sisters, Angeline Zanella, Dora Maxinoski and Anna Peterson.      Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place.      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Frank Kordek OFM, celebrant.      Luncheon will follow at the Iron Nugget in downtown Hurley.      Rite of Committal and interment will be in St.Mary's Cemetery, Hurley, in the spring.      In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Mary's Church, 404 Iron St., Hurley, WI 54534.      Condolences may be given to Margaret's family online at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.      Arrangements have been entrusted to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood.
