Obituary

Margaret L. Ellos, 93, of Ironwood, Mich., died Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley.      The former Margaret Simmons was born March 9, 1919, in Ironwood, daughter of the late John and Mary (Michetti) Simmons Sr., and graduated from St. Ambrose High School in 1937. She was employed as a clerk at Woolworth's, S.S. Kresge Co., O'Donnell Style Shop and Sears-Roebuck & Co. in downtown Ironwood prior to her marriage to Ted Ellos on June 2, 1942, in Jericho, Wis. While raising their family, Margaret also worked as bookkeeper at Ellos Appliance for 20 years, retiring in 1974. Ted preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 2009.      Margaret was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, and a former member of the Ironwood Women's Club and the Gogebic Country Club.      Mom always said, "Families are what life is all about and you all have made our lives worthwhile".      Surviving are four sons, Dennis (Linda), Ironwood Township, Robert (Barbara), Stillwater, Minn., Peter (Becky), Ironwood Township, and David (Carol), Sartell, Minn.; two daughters, Karyn (Gordon) Watters, Ashland, and Mary Pat Niemi, Eugene, Ore.; eight grandchildren, Geoffrey Watters, Wausau, Brynna (Andy) Moffitt, Ashland, Rachel Watters (Eric Wilhelm), Verona, Cody (Laura) Ellos, Maple Grove, Minn., Chad (Nicole) Ellos, Shorewood, Minn., Tara (Ryan) Anderson, Wausau, Amy (Kevin) Lahti, Ironwood Township, and Nicole Niemi, Los Angeles; 12 great-grandchildren, Cayden, Connor and Colton Ellos, Lauren Watters, Tia and Breleigh Lahti, Jack and Nate Wilhelm, Taysia Niemi, Meghan Moffitt, and Ty and Aubrie Anderson; a sister, Sister Priscilla Simmons OSF, Manitowoc; and numerous nieces and nephews.        Besides her parents and husband, Margaret was predeceased by a son, Larry, at birth; brothers, Raymond, John and Donald Simmons; and sisters, Marie Sontag, Priscilla Eklund, Kay Nelson, Ceil Maccani, Colleen Melisko and Betty Hampel.      Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place.      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March, 9, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation in the St. Joseph Family Room   at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Robb Jurkovich, celebrant.      Luncheon will follow in the parish hall.      Rite of Committal and interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood, in the spring.       Arrangements are with McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood, where condolences may be given online at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.      The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Josephson's, and more recently, Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center, for their excellent care extended to Margaret.
