Marci M.
Uremovich
August 14, 1945 – June 4, 2025
Marci M. Uremovich, 79, of Hurley, Wisconsin, dedicated daughter, wife, mother, sister, mother-in-law, grand-mother-in-law, auntie, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and compassionate caretaker to many, passed away unexpectedly at her home on June 4th, 2025.
Marci's single most important personal desire in life contributed to the deep love she expressed toward her family, a selfless motivation rooted entirely in one goal--Her family's health and happiness.
Born August 14, 1945, in Ashland, WI, to Joseph and Margaret (Selves) Uremovich, she was affectionately nicknamed "Snooki," a name inspired by the Baby Snooks show, which remained with her throughout her life. She grew up in Montreal and Hurley, frequently visiting her grandparents at Lake O'Brien, while excelling academically and socially, graduating in 1963.
Marci stood beside her best friend Gloria as she married Marci's brother in 1963, unaware that the best man, Roman "Muzzy" Conhartoski Sr., would soon become the love of her life. Just a year later, on July 25, 1964, Marci and Roman were married.
Marci welcomed her son, Roman Joseph Jr., affectionately known as "Little Muzzy" in 1965, followed by daughter Gina Sue in 1966. It was an era of malt shops, mining, milkmen on morning routes, watching Johnny Carson late night TV, and the familiar worn community envelope making its rounds for the American Cancer Society.
Marci worked part-time at the Mellen Mill and then waitressing at Rudy's Bar and Grill to help support her young family. Marci embraced the hardworking rhythms of the time; tending gardens, picking berries, canning at home, washing cloth diapers, running laundry through a wringer washer while the unmistakable scent of Aqua Net emanated gently throughout the house as it secured her iconic beehive hairdo.
In quiet moments, Marci strolled the railroad tracks with her children to the café for hot chocolate, sang "Seasons in the Sun" to the 45 playing in the kitchen while cooking, and watching black-and-white TV in the evenings with the kids serving as remote controls.
Family gatherings were frequent, with distant and immediate relatives staying close. Summers brought joyful days at the cottage: filled with boating, fishing, fireworks, overinflated black inner tubes recycled from old tires, and cousins sharing chicken pox. Constant fits of laughter filled the air whenever Marci and her siblings were in the same room.
Once her two children began grade school, Marci pursued her passion for caregiving by enrolling in the Nursing Program at Gogebic Community College. She skillfully balanced the demands of work, parenting, and daily life; often, squeezing in every moment she could to study her nursing textbooks. Graduating in 1973, she began her nursing career in the ER at Memorial Medical Center and later at Villa Maria, retiring in 2011 after 38 years of devoted, compassionate, skilled service.
Marci and Roman carried on their family legacy with the births of two more sons; Ryan Steven in 1977 and Nathan Daniel, also known as "Muzzy", in 1982. Welcoming a new generation brought renewed purpose and joy to Marci's life. She remained active and fulfilled, attending Sunday School at the Baptist Church, cheering at football and baseball games, and enjoying swing choir performances.
A steady presence in her children's lives, she never missed a call, warmly welcomed Sunday visits after church on "King of Kings Day", and shared countless home-cooked meals. Never one to forget, that special bowl of popcorn shared at movie time.
For over fifteen years, the beloved Mother's Day tradition of Marci selecting her annual hanging basket lives on, its vibrant blooms still brightening her driveway. A heartfelt tradition that Marci truly cherished.
Marci treasured her ever-growing family, lighting up at the sound of "Grandma Marci" as little and big feet rushed in for hugs. A chorus of wiggling, barking dogs waited their turn to snuggle; often hoping to sneak a first taste of "Gama's" baked beans and stuffing.
Marci drew strength from her parents' quiet resilience and unwavering Christian faith, which formed her lifelong values. A devoted caregiver, even during profound personal pain, she brought comfort to others with selfless love and quiet strength, embodying the spirit of the "dynamic duo" union.
Marci's guidance and wisdom shaped lives; offering honest advice to those who listened and always sending a card to make others feel loved and remembered. Her famous quote, "Keep it simple," said it all.
Her passing turns the voice of a treasured past into a lasting whisper of love, living on in every heart she held.
Marci is sadly missed by her brother Steve (Gloria) Uremovich of Two Harbors, MN; three children, Roman (Patti) Conhartoski of Hurley, WI, Gina (Nicole) Conhartoski of Minneapolis, MN, and Nathan (Renee) Conhartoski of Hurley, WI; three grandchildren, Tom (Marisa) Conhartoski, Cory (Ellyn) Conhartoski, Trever (Kaitlyn) Conhartoski, eight great-grandchildren Rylan, Aydan, Calvin, Landon, Carson, Everleigh, Elilah, and Easton; numerous beloved nephews, nieces, cousins friends; special friend, Gisela Lusa,; Special Best Friends Lois Fruik and Gloria Uremovich.
Marci is lovingly preceded in death and welcomed in heaven by her parents, Joseph and Margaret (Selves) Uremovich; Son, Ryan Steven Conhartoski; Beloved best friend, Roman Conhartoski Sr.; Grandson, Dylan Conhartoski; Sister, Ann Danielson; Dogs: Bambi, Meshak, Koyjia, and Maggie; and her cherished loyal cat of 20 years, Suzie.
