Obituary

Louis P. Osterman, 83, of Ironwood, died peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, with his family by his side, at Westgate Nursing, Rehabilitation, and Assisted Living Community in Ironwood, following a lengthy illness.      He was born March 10, 1929, in Ironwood, son of the late John and Mary (Babic) Osterman, attended Ironwood schools, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1947. He then served two years stateside in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.      Following his honorable discharge as a corporal on Dec. 19, 1952, Louis worked in Detroit for two years. He then returned to Ironwood, where he worked as a driver/salesman for Santini Distributing Co. and the Sunshine Biscuit Co., retiring as a delivery driver for United Parcel Service after 16 years of service in 1987.      Louis was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, where he served as usher, Ironwood American Legion Post 5, Eagle Bluff Golf Club in Hurley, Wis., and longtime member and past treasurer of the Aurora Athletic Club. An excellent softball player, he played in the Range Old Timers League up until the age of 60. He loved his garden, and enjoyed spending winters in Cathedral City, Calif. He especially enjoyed spending time with family.      Surviving are two brothers, Joseph, San Clemente, Calif., and Peter (Elaine), LaHabra, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.      Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers John and Rudy; a sister, Mary Vogel; and longtime companion, Dorothy Cardini.      Per Louis's wishes, cremation has taken place.      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation in the St. Joseph Family Room at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Robb Jurkovich, celebrant.      Luncheon will follow in the parish hall.      Private Rite of Committal and interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.      Condolences may be given to Louis's family online at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.      Arrangements are entrusted to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood.
