Lorraine Jeanette Marie
De Mario
September 13, 1937 – May 6, 2025
Lorraine "Lori" Jeanette Marie (Brighenti) De Mario. Wife of John David De Mario, born September 13, 1937, passed quietly shortly after 8:00 am, Tuesday, May, 6th, 2025, ending a years-long fight with colon cancer.
Lorraine and John began a beautiful relationship in the Fall of 1954 at a teenage dance at the Ironwood Memorial Building. They decided to join hands in wedlock on September 22, 1956.
This was the beginning of a 69-year relationship, which they both regarded as a never-ending adventure that included time in four states, Wisconsin, Michigan, California and Minnesota.
They were joined in the adventure by 4-year-old son Michael J and 1 year old daughter Kathryn A. shortly before heading down route 66 on their way from Ironwood to Sacramento, CA. in May of 1962.
After 19 great, exploratory years in sunny California, John as a graphic artist and Lorraine as a full time Mom and later as a part time fitness instructor, they decided to seek new horizons and traveled to Minnesota where John continued as a graphic artist and Lorraine evolved into a talented receptionist for the same company John represented as an advertising artist and director.
In 2001 John retired and he an Lorraine decided to move back to Ironwood to be near old friends and aging parents. Both began quickly to cement old friendships and create new ones. The visit back to Ironwood has lasted 25 rewarding years. They offer many thanks to loving, caring friends in the Ironwood and Hurley area.
Lori loved to decorate her home, a hobby that was never finished. She also enjoyed taking care of her flower beds, and her book collection. She treasured her lady's coffee club.
Lori will be deeply missed by her husband of 69 years, John; son, Michael J. (Beth) De Mario; daughter, Kathryn (Tom) Swarts; granddaughter, Fiona (Dillion) Pomeroy, and great-grandson, Crue Pomeroy. She is further survived by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Joe.
A private celebration of Lori's life will take place at a later date.
