Lori J. Lorendo, 53, of Gile,
died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at Memorial Medical Center in Ashland, following a
courageous battle with leukemia. The former Lori J. Stanlake was born May 20,
1958, in Ashland, daughter of the late Manfred "Bud" and Loretta (Belanger)
Stanlake, and was raised in Montreal. She attended Montreal Grade School and
graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in Hurley in 1976. She began her working career in housekeeping
at the Hurley Holiday Inn, moving up to desk clerk, and eventually innkeeper,
over a span of 22 years. During this time, she became extremely active in the
Hurley Area Chamber of Commerce. For the past 13 years, she was employed as a
pharmacy tech at the White Cross Pharmacy in Hurley. Lori was a member of the Hurley Lioness and
served as a faithful volunteer at the Italian Festival, Heritage Festival, and
the Paavo Nurmi Marathon. Her interests included playing Nintendo DS, reading, Facebook, and going to the casino. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was
quite the practical joker. On Oct. 3, 1992, she married Thomas A. Lorendo
at Zion Lutheran Church in Ironwood. He survives. Also surviving are a stepson, Tomas Lorendo
Jr., Minnesota; stepdaughter, Brandi Townsend, Mauston; two grandchildren,
Matthew and Madeline Townsend; two sisters, Sandy (Bob) Rowe, Saxon, and Alison
(Dave) Juntti, Bessemer, Mich.; two brothers-in-law and two
sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews; and
her ex-husband, Brian Maki, of Bergland, Mich. Out of respect for Lori's wishes, cremation
has taken place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Saturday, Feb. 18, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 9:30 a.m., at St.
Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Frank Kordek OFM,
celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place at the
church, with luncheon to follow at Wishbones in downtown Hurley. Private interment will be in Lakeview
Cemetery, Saxon, in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorials are
preferred. To view Lori's obituary online, sign her
