Loretta M. Semenak, 101, of
Ironwood, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, in Ironwood. The former Loretta Bauman was born Nov. 9,
1908, in Little Suamico, Wis., daughter of the late Anton and Mary (Gokey)
Bauman. She attended Crystal Falls schools and moved to Ironwood in April,
1937. She was employed at Simpson Electric in
Mercer, Wis. from 1958 to 1974, and at Joe's Pasty Shop in downtown Ironwood
from 1974 to her retirement in 1993. Loretta was a member of Our Lady of Peace
Catholic Church in Ironwood and the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and was
a former member of the Range Area Cribbage League. She enjoyed knitting,
crocheting and bowling, having bowled in the
Tuesday Night Ladies League at the Sport Bowl in Ironwood for many
years. On Nov. 2, 1925, she was united in marriage
to George J. Semenak Sr. in Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death on Nov. 16,
1989. Surviving are two daughters, Wanda Escher,
Chicago, and Loretta (Jack) Williamson, Charleston, S.C.; 20 grandchildren,18
great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter; her daughter-in-law,
Carol Semenak, Ironwood; one niece; and three nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Loretta was
preceded in death by four sons, George Jr., in 1965; Harold O. "Snooks", in
1979; Ronald Sr., in 1981; and Robert, in 1984; a granddaughter, Nancy Ann
Semenak, on June 20, 1963; a grandson, Ronald Semenak Jr., on April 22, 1977;
and two brothers, Harold and Orville Bauman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood,
with the Rev. Darryl Pepin, celebrant. Rite of Committal will be in the St. Joseph
Family Room at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish
hall Cremation will take place. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery,
Ironwood. Relatives and friends may call in the St.
