Lillian E. Leinon, 88, of
Hurley, and a former longtime Iron Belt resident, died Saturday, June 23, 2012,
in Hurley. The former Lillian Vanderschaegen was born
Aug. 25, 1923, in Hinckley, Minn., daughter of the late August and Eugenie
(DeVos) Vanderschaegen, and attended Minnesota and Iron Belt
schools. She was united in marriage to Raymond L.
Leinon on July 18, 1940, at the First Presbyterian Church in Hurley, by the late
Rev. C.L. Harries. Raymond preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 1999. Lillian was a member of the First Presbyterian
Church in Hurley. Her activities and interests included reading, crossword
puzzles, game shows, Fox News-current events, cooking and baking, Grandmas Club,
Iron Belt PTA, the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers, and following her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their activities and sports. She also
loved to dance. Surviving are a daughter, Darlene Laihinen,
Beaver Dam; two sons, Dean (Karin), Waukesha, and David (Shelley), Iron Belt;
six grandchildren, Chris (Sandy) Leinon, Sussex, Lori (Bill) Chronis, Mukwonago,
Deena and Jamie Leinon, both of Iron Belt, Scott (Christine) Laihinen, Mequon,
and Bart (Hilary) Laihinen, Lakeville, Minn.; nine great-grandchildren, Olivia
and Lilly McNally, Brianna and Sam Leinon, and John, Jake, Jacqueline, Mitchel
and Griffin Laihinen; numerous nieces and nephews; and
brothers-and-sisters-in-law, Esther Vanderschaegen, Hinckley, Henry and Patricia
Leinon, Hurley, Willard and Joyce Leinon, Montreal, and Paul and Marlene Masuga
and Norma Leinon, all of Hurley. Besides her parents and husband, Lillian was
preceded in death by her son-in-law, Richard Laihinen, on Sept. 15, 2003;
brothers, Rudolph, Valere, Wilbert and Michael Vanderschaegen; and sisters, Mary
Waller, Minnie Frase, Marie Elsberry, and Sarah, Flora and Martha Vanderschaegen
in infancy. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June
28, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at the First Presbyterian
Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Don Nickolson officiating. Committal and interment will follow in
Hillside Cemetery, Iron Belt. Luncheon will be served at Joany's Sidekicks
in Iron Belt immediately upon return from the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lillian's grandsons, Chris
and Jamie Leinon, and Scott and Bart Laihinen, and great-grandsons, Jake
Laihinen and Sam Leinon. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to
