Obituary

Leone S. Furyk, 89, of Hurley, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, in Hurley.      The former Leone Lodle was born Oct. 5, 1920, in Two Creeks, daughter of the late William and Mary (Riederer) Lodle. She attended Gile, Montreal and Hurley schools, graduating from Lincoln High School in Hurley in 1939. She then attended Ashland County Normal Teachers College and received her teaching degree in 1941.      Leone was employed at the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, and taught in Clintonville, Oma, Saxon, Iron Belt and Rock County. She also worked for the Oma-South Carey Credit Union for a number of years.      She was a member of St. Mary¹s Catholic Church in Hurley, the auxiliary to Iron County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1580, and the Oma-South Carey Homemakers. She enjoyed reading and knitting.      On Aug. 17, 1942, she married Walter P. Furyk in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death on June 23, 2000.      Surviving are two sisters, Helen (John) Hansen, Port Washington, and Mary Jane Murphy, Jackson; a sister-in-law, Carol Furyk, Hurley; a brother-in-law, Percy Eternick, Port Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews and great and great-great nieces and nephews.      Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Charlotte Valle and Betty Eternick; and brothers-and-sisters-in-law, Louis A. Valle, Eugene Murphy, Bernard Furyk, Michael and Evelyn Furyk, and Paul and Caroline Simko.      In accordance with Leone¹s wishes, cremation has taken place.      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 24, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary¹s Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Michael Hayden, celebrant.      Rite of Committal will take place at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall.      Inurnment will be in St. Mary¹s Cemetery, Hurley.      Relatives and friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 24.      To view Leone¹s obituary online, sign the guestbook and express condolences, visit mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.      Arrangements are entrusted to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood.
