Obituary

Leonard C. Bluse, 85, of 118 First Ave. No., Hurley, died Wednesday morning, April 4, 2007, in his home. He was born Sept. 4, 1921, in Saxon, son of the late Charles and Georgianna (Rostollan) Bluse, and attended Saxon schools. He worked in the woods and in heavy construction for many years, and spent six years in the Montreal Mine. He retired from White Pine Copper Co. after 20 years of service in 1982. Leonard enjoyed hunting and the outdoors, and spent most of his time fishing with his brothers. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley. On July 14, 1945, he was married to the former Margaret A. Suzik at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Ironwood, Mi., by the late Rev. Frank Ronkowski. Margaret survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Marjorie (Fred) Southworth, Terre Haute, Ind. and Bobbie (Bob) Glatczak, Hurley; three sons, Kenny (Ginny), Spooner, Michael (Jill), Ironwood, and Mark (Terri), Hurley; ten grandchildren, Heidi (Kenny) Pitakis, Jason (Jo Ellen) Southworth, Stefanie (Chris) Voyer, Steven (Diana) Glatczak, Brandon (Rainie) Bluse and Justin (Devon) Bluse, and Karissa, Jordan (Jenni), Kyle and Kristopher Bluse; five great-grandchildren, Hailey and Tanner Pitakis, Nicholas Voyer, and Brayden and Alyza Bluse; a brother, Byron (Georgianna) Bluse, Chippewa Falls; a sister, Anna Mae Alonen, Colleyville, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Bette Bluse, Ironwood, Nancy Bluse, Marquette, Mi., Ray Savera, Irving, Texas, Lois Damgard, Ashland, Joe Suzik, Irene Rintala, and Erma Romanowski, all of Hurley, and Ann Yale and Helen Suzik, both of Ironwood. Besides his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Jane Bluse; a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Voyer; six brothers, Walter and Arthur Damgard, twin brother, Russell "Curly" Bluse, Edward Bluse, Clayton "Chickie" Bluse, and Noel Bluse; and two sisters, Mary Huestis and Catherine Savera. At Leonard's request, cremation has taken place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, April 9, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Michael Hayden, presider. Rite of Committal will follow at the church. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Relatives and friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday.
