Leonard F. "Len" Berube, 82, of
Saxon, died peacefully Friday, April 12, 2013, at home, with his family by his
side, following a brief battle with melanoma. He was born Jan. 6, 1931, in Ironwood, Mich.,
son of the late Thomas and Lillian (Barta) Berube, attended Roosevelt School in
Ironwood Township, and graduated from Saxon High School in 1951. He worked with
his parents on the Berube Dairy Farm in Saxon for many years, purchasing the
business in 1967 and retiring in 1996. Len was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church
in Saxon, where he was formerly active in the Holy Name Society. He also was a
member of the former Saxon Lions Club, the Michigan Milk Producers Association, Agriculture and Soil Conservation Board of Ashland and Bayfield, Midland Co-op
Board of Hurley and Ashland, and formerly served as a supervisor on the Saxon
Town Board. He loved driving his Lincoln and taking daily trips with his brother
Ed to and from Saxon Harbor and around the area. He also enjoyed hunting and the
cam a raderie and fellowship at camp, and his new side by side ATV. Surviving are two brothers, Gerald (Martha),
Lisbon, No. Dakota, and Ed, Saxon; three sisters, Theresa (Cy) Sims, Rockport,Texas,
Dolores Haas-Folz, Wausau, and Marcella Lahti, Waukesha; numerous nieces and
nephews; and a host of friends. Besides his parents, Len was predeceased by a
sister, Mildred Hunn; and four brothers-in-law, Ira "Mick" Lahti, Grant Haney
Sr., Ralph Hunn and Verne Folz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Tuesday, April 16, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Ann's
Catholic Church in Saxon, with the Rev. Frank Kordek OFM,
celebrant. Luncheon will follow at Tacconelli's in
downtown Ironwood. Rite of Committal and interment will be later
this spring in Lakeview Cemetery, Saxon. Pallbearers will be Grant Haney, Jr., Greg Haas, Phillip Hunn, Ron Peterson, Joe Kasper and De an Waldros. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to
