Obituary

Laura E. Perry, 66, of E4530 Piilola Rd., Ironwood Township, died Sunday, May 23, 2010, at Marquette General Hospital in Marquette.      The former Laura E. Richards was born Oct. 15, 1943, in Hurley, Wis., daughter of the late Edwin and Lucille (Lawler) Richards. She attended Montreal, Wis. and Hurley schools, and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in Hurley in 1961. She then attended beauty school in Milwaukee and worked as a beauty operator there for four years.      She was married to Leonard K. Perry on May 30, 1964, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milwaukee. The couple resided in Justice, Ill. from 1965-1967 and Kalamazoo from 1968-1984 before moving to Ironwood Township.      Laura worked as an aide at Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield and Westgate Nursing, Rehabilitation, and Assisted Living Community in Ironwood. She then was employed for 17 years as a residential training specialist for Community Mental Health at their group home on Midland Ave. in Ironwood; and at the time of her death, at the Lakeshore Group Home in Wakefield.      Laura enjoyed spending time out in her yard in her plant and flower garden and feeding the birds. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandson.      Surviving are her husband, Leonard, of 46 years; son, Jim (Tammy), Ironwood Township; daughter, Paula (Marty) Westeen, and grandson, Nathan Westeen, all of Plover, Wis;  sister, Kay (Peter) Koruga, Wakefield; sisters-and-brothers-in-law, Shizue Richards, Wakefield, Margie Richards, Ypsilanti, Eino Piilola, Hurley, and Edward and Karen Perry, Las Vegas; and numerous nieces and nephews.      Besides her parents, Laura was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Earl Richards; and a sister, Jean Piilola.      Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place.      Private family services and inurnment will be held.      Memorial contributions may be made to the Marquette General Hospital Foundation, 580 W.
