Obituary

Laura J. Holm, 94, of Ironwood Township, died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, in Ironwood.      The former Laura J. Swanson was born April 1, 1917, in Iron Belt, Wis., daughter of the late Carl and Elena (Rosa) Swanson, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood in 1937.      She married William B. Rajala on July 20, 1937, in Ironwood, and was a stay-at-home wife and mom for many years. She was a Girl Scout leader for 12 years. Later in life she obtained a degree as a registered nurse and worked in  Arlington, Texas, retiring in 1979. William preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 1978, and Laura moved back to Ironwood shortly thereafter.      Laura married Norman A. Holm on Nov. 28, 1980, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ironwood. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ironwood and the Esther Circle.  She enjoyed ceramics, dancing, swimming, traveling and playing cards. She also volunteered at the Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield and as a Pink Lady at the Grand View Hospital in Ironwood. She loved life and had many friends.      She is survived by her husband Norman; a daughter, Lenore (Bill) Kirby, Stevens Point, Wis., and son, Dennis Rajala, Houston, Texas. She is also survived by three stepdaughters, Sherry Holm, Ironwood, Doreen (Larry) Schaller, Lake Nebagamon, Wis., and Marcia (Nick) Nelson, Ironwood Township; ten grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.      Besides her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jill Kirby, in 2008; and a twin sister, Lillian Guglielmotto, in 1971.      Memorial services will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church in Ironwood, with Pastor Peggy Rose officiating.      Luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.      Private interment will be at a later date.      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 100 W.
