Keith H. Vardon, 83, of
Ironwood, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, in Ironwood. He was born March 10, 1927, in Munising,
Mich., son of the late Claude and Inez (Carrier) Vardon, attended Au Train and
Munising schools, and graduated from Baraga High School in 1945. He then entered
the U.S. Army Air Force, serving in occupation forces in Japan, and was
honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1946. Following his discharge, Keith worked for the
Ford Motor Co. in Big Bay, at Roddis Lumber Co. in Ironwood, and in the Cary
Mine and at White Pine Copper Co., retiring in 1985. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic
Church in Ironwood and a former member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, serving
as an usher in both parishes and as a Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Peace.
He was also a member of Bessemer Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3673, A.A.R.P.,
and the United Steelworker's Union. His hobbies included hunting and
fishing. On April 20, 1963, Keith was married to Marian
Rozelle Stafford at Holy Trinity Catholic Church by the late Rev. Ambrose
Matejik. She preceded him in death on May 14, 2003. Surviving are a son, Keith Jr., Marathon,
Wis.; step-son, Larry Stafford, Beloit, Wis.; eight grandchildren and several
great-grandchildren; a brother, Michael (Helen), Clarkston, Mich.; a sister,
Mary Therese (Bob) Rasmussen, Iron Mountain; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Vardon,
Ironwood, and Bessie Rozelle, Beloit, WI; and numerous nieces and
nephews. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded
in death by a step-son, David Stafford; a brother, Richard; two sisters, Ann
Catherine in childhood and Maureen McQuiggin; and a sister-in-law, Birdene Marrone. As per Keith's wishes, cremation has taken
place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Saturday, Dec. 4, at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood,
with the Rev. Darryl J. Pepin, celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place in the St.
Joseph Family Room at the church, where a flag presentation ceremony will be
accorded by representatives of the Bessemer VFW Post 3673 Honor
Guard. Spring inurnment will be in Riverside
Cemetery, Ironwood. Relatives and friends may call in the St.
Joseph Family Room at the church from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday. Keith's obituary may be viewed online and
