Katherine "Kay" Helen (Grivicich) Sibley, 96, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Gogebic Medical Care Facility with her family by her side.
She was born January 1, 1929, to the late Robert and Mandy (Pocrnic) Grivicich in Jesseville. On September 6, 1946, she married Raymond Warren Sibley. They raised their 6 children in Wakefield, MI together. He passed away on May 21, 2006.
She was very proud of all of her children and their accomplishments and all her grandchildren. Altogether she had 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was known as "Goose" to many who knew her. The story behind that was she was camping with her daughter Kathy in a small 16-foot camper with 4 of her grandkids all crammed into a small camper. Kathy said to her "Mom, you're like mother goose with all these kids!" From that day forward she had become "Gramma Goose". She was sure a spitfire and loved them all.
She was always up for a good time and going to her daughter Julie's bar for some music and dancing and a tap beer once in a while. Kay was very active in Little League when her boys were young and in Girl Scout. She was also active in the VFW and the American Legion and was a past president for many years.
Kay and a group of friends started a ladies' softball league in the '60s' they named her team the Panthers. As she got older, Kay bought a camper and enjoyed camping at Lake Gogebic and Sunday Lake with her children, and grandkids.
She was in a bowling league for many years and attended many league tournaments even becoming the grand duchess. Her next favorite thing was playing cards with her friends and family. You could always find her around a picnic table playing a mean game of sticks. Kay also loved playing bingo. She enjoyed gambling with her best friend Elaine and her daughters, making many trips to Las Vegas and Wendover.
Kay loved to bake, and cook, and always had all the holiday parties at her house, making sure everyone had enough to eat, and was always the center of attention making everyone smile. Another one of her hobbies was crocheting and her good friend Delores Cappo taught everyone in their group of ladies how to do it.
She was also very proud of going back to school after raising her children and getting her GED in 1972. After her children were raised, she went back to working at Gogebic Medical as a cook and then at Indianhead's cafeteria as a cook.
Surviving are her children, Raymond (Joann) Sibley Ironwood, Karen Landahl of Ironwood, Kathy (William "Buffy") Phillips of Wakefield, Julie & (Joe) Corullo of Bessemer, Mike (Melissa) Sibley of Wakefield; and daughter-in-law Kris Sibley of Ishpeming; her grandchildren, Eric (Erica) Sibley, Stacy Sibley, Debbie Kokely, Shelby Hine, Brooke Hine (Phil), Trina (Josh) Hakamaa, Adam Roberts (Anna), Krystal Sibley, Miranda (Jake) Scheppler, Michael Sibley, Joe (Kari) Sibley, Roberta (Robert) Ross, and Guy Sibley; her great-grandchildren, Haley, Evan, Elise, Brock, Katelyn, Brody, Jacob, Calista,(Kyle) Cortney, Tyler, Nathan, Dillon (Carissa), Cody, Nevaeh, Alexis, Aria, and Lainey; her great-great-grandchildren, Everlee and Lincoln which she was very proud to be a 5th generation grandma. She is further survived by other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a son, Robert (2020), son-in-law, John Landahl (2021), and her sisters Mary, Loucile, & Julia, brothers Bob, and Geroge. Kay also lost her best friend of 75 years in August of 2024, and her partner in crime, Elaine Tarro.
