Obituary

Katherine A. "Katie" Miklesh, 95, of Ironwood, Mich., died peacefully Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015, at Sky View Nursing Center in Hurley, surrounded by her loving family.      The former Katherine Grivicich was born Feb. 17, 1920, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Marco and Matilda (Smolcich) Grivicich, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School with the Class of 1937. She then worked for the WPA (Works Progress Administration) at the pre-school center in the Resettlement for three years.      She was married to Louis J. Miklesh on Nov. 16, 1940, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ironwood by the late Rev. Carl Petranek. Louis preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 1994.      Katie was employed at Sears-Roebuck Co. in downtown Ironwood from 1967 to her retirement as mail order catalogue manager in 1983. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood and the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church, having served as past secretary and president of the Holy Trinity Altar Society. She was also a 28-year member and past secretary of the Gogebic County Extension Council, member and past president of the Auxiliary to Ironwood American Legion Post 5, and volunteered at the  St. Vincent De Paul Society. An avid bowler, Katie bowled in leagues at the American Legion Lanes in Hurley and the Sport Bowl in Ironwood. She loved to crochet, knit, bake and tend to her flower garden.      Surviving are four sons, Louis (Karen), Tavares, Fla., Robert (Sandra), Ironwood, John (Cindy), Fresno, Calif., and Andrew (Jolene), Isle, Minn.; five grandchildren, Robert (Michelle) Miklesh, Plover, James Miklesh, Wisconsin Rapids, David Miklesh, Athens, Ga., Thomas Miklesh, Minneapolis, and Rebecca Miklesh, Isle; three great-grandchildren, Ally, Megan and Madison Miklesh; two sisters, Mary Anderson, Wakefield, Mich., and Matilda Bright, Orlando, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.      Besides her parents and husband, Katie was preceded in death by brothers, Nick and Steve Grivicich; and sisters, Josephine Mukavitz and Ann Light.      Visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 20, from 10 to 11 a.m., in the St. Joseph Family Room at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated  at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Robb Jurkovich, celebrant.      Rite of Committal and interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.      Lunch will be served at the Iron Nugget in downtown Hurley upon return from the cemetery.      Serving as pallbearers will be Louis, Bob, John, Andy, Bob Jr., Jim, David and Tom Miklesh.      In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Our Lady of Peace Church.      Arrangements have been entrusted to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, Inc., Ironwood.
