Josephine A. "Joan" Pedri, 97, of Hurley, died Saturday, March 29, 2008, in Hurley. The former Josephine Chiesa was born March 28, 1911, in Milan, Italy, daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Boroszi) Chiesa, and came to Loretto, Mich. at the age of 5, where she attended school. She then moved to Milwaukee and then to Detroit, where she was employed in factory work. On Oct. 28, 1937, she was united in marriage to Roman Pedri in Toledo, Ohio. They lived in Detroit for two years, then in Milwaukee, moving to Hurley in 1938, where she was employed in housework. Roman preceded Josephine in death in 1953. Following the death of her husband, she returned to Milwaukee and worked as a nanny for several wealthy families for many years, retiring in 1976 and moving back to Hurley, where she lived at Southgate Village. Josephine was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and baking. Surviving are her daughter, Lorraine Rosenberg, of Gile; two grandchildren, Pam (Dan) Linick, Livonia, Mich., and Kevin (Ann) Rosenberg, Eau Claire; two great- grandchildren, Meaghan Linick, New York, N.Y., and Brady Linick, Livonia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Josephine was preceded in death by five brothers, Camille, Eugene, Victor, Albert and Guido Chiesa; and a sister, Marie Dalsant. In accordance with her wishes, Josephine has donated her body to the Medical College of Wisconsin in Wauwatosa for anatomical research purposes. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley at a later date to be announced. Interment of Josephine's cremated remains will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee. Condolences may be expressed online at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.
