Josephine K. "Josie" Hagelin,
90, of Ironwood, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, in Ironwood. The former Josephine Letanofsky was born April
25, 1921, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Steve and Mary (Elko) Letanofsky,
attended Ironwood schools, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in
1939. She worked as a waitress at the Silver Cup
Cafe in downtown Ironwood, then was employed as a glove maker at the Hansen
Glove Factory in Ironwood and Netz Glove in Pence, Wis. for many years, retiring
in 1986. Josie was a member of Our Lady of Peace
Catholic Church in Ironwood and sang in the Resurrection Choir. She lived for
her family and grandchildren. On Aug. 14, 1948, she was married to Byron L.
"Barney" Hagelin at the Holy Trinity rectory in Ironwood by the late Rev. Carl Petranek. Barney preceded her in death on
March 10, 2009. Surviving are a son, Michael (Renee), Maple
Grove, Minn.; four grandchildren, Jason (Sarah) Hagelin and Kevin Hagelin, both
of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Brian Hagelin, St. Louis Park, Minn., and Shawn
Hagelin, Plymouth, Minn.; brother, Frank Letanofsky, Chicago; sister, Margaret
(Tony) DeFelice, Ironwood; brother-and-sisters-in-law, Clint and Donna Hagelin
and Dorothy Kusz, all of Ironwood; and numerous nieces and nephews;
Besides her parents and husband, she was
preceded in death by two brothers, Steve Letanofsky in infancy and John
Letanofsky; and five sisters, Dorothy, Anna, Julia and Regina Letanofsky, and
Mary Rogers. Out of respect for Josie's wishes, cremation
has taken place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Friday, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood,
preceded by visitation in the St. Joseph Family Room at 10 a.m., with the Rev.
Darryl J. Pepin, celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place at the
church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall. Private inurnment will be in Riverside
