Joseph M. McRaniels, 79, of
308 E. Silver St., Bessemer, died Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, in
Ironwood. He was born March 28, 1930, in Bessemer, son
of the late Joseph and Angeline (Hamilton) McRaniels, attended school in
Mercer, Wis.,and farmed for a short time
on Blue Gill Lake in Mercer. He then became a Minister in the Church of the
Nazarene, pastoring in Menominee, Mich. and in Spooner, Eleva and LaCrosse, Wis.
for a total of 20 years, retiring and moving to Bessemer in 1992. Joe attended the Range Community Bible Church
in Hurley, Wis. He loved gardening and was an active volunteer at the Iron
County Farmer's Market in Hurley. He also served in the Wisconsin National Guard
for a number of years. He especially loved his family and was very devoted to
his church. On Nov. 15, 1957, he was united in marriage to
the former Shirley E. Stuhr in Bessemer. She survives. Also surviving are four sons, Joseph J. (Amy),
LaCrosse, Mark (Tasha), Sparta, Wis., Daniel (Amy), Oklahoma City, Okla., and
Nathan (Sue), Sheboygan, Wis.; two daughters, Angela (Doug) Bloomquist, Forest
Lake, Minn., and Dorothy (David) Jenkins, Ironwood; 20 grandchildren and one
great-grandchild; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hamilton, Iowa, and Cuvella Hamilton,
Plainfield, Wis.; brothers-in-law, David (Virginia) Stuhr, Mercer, and Dennis
(Lyn) Stuhr, Ironwood Township; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Joe was preceded in death
by two sons, Peter in infancy, and Paul, in 1993; a daughter, Cindy Simplot, in
2002; and three brothers, Richard, Joseph and Robert Hamilton. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov.
14, at 11 a.m., at the Range Community Bible Church in Hurley, with pastors Dr.
Neal Schroeter and Rev. Gerald Deppa, co-officiating. Committal will take place at the church, with
luncheon to follow in the church fellowship hall. Interment will be in the Mercer
Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church
one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Pallbearers will be Roy Speck, Doug
