Joseph M. Forini, 73, of 727 Hill St.,
Ironwood, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, in Hurley, following a brief
illness. He was born Sept. 9, 1936, in Ironwood, son of
the late Angelo and Maria (Trussardi) Forini, attended grade school in Anvil
Location, Bessemer, and graduated from A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer in
1954. He then received undergraduate and master's degrees from Northern Michigan
University in Marquette in mathematics. Joe began his 40-yr. teaching career at
Standish High School in Standish, Mich., teaching math there for four years. He
then taught math at Duluth East High School in Duluth, Minn. for one year, then
at Wakefield High School in Wakefield for 35 years, retiring in
1998. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic
Church in Ironwood and a former Lector at Christ the King Parish in Ramsay. He
also was a member of the Michigan Education Association and the Michigan
Association of Retired School Personnel. He enjoyed fishing, reading, and doing
Sudoku math puzzles. He also was a huge Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packer fan.
He especially enjoyed traveling to Chicago with his beloved wife to visit their
daughter. JOE WAS A WONDERFUL HUSBAND AND FATHER AND
WILL BE DEEPLY MISSED. He was married to the former Jean T. Wilcheck
on July 10, 1965, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood. She
survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Jeanine
Forini, Chicago; a brother-in-law, Ken (Mary) Long, Lake Bluff, Ill.; and
numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death
by a sister, Mary, in infancy; and an uncle, John Lancetti. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Monday, Nov. 2, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood,
with the Rev. Darryl J. Pepin, celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place in the St.
Joseph Family Room at the church, with a luncheon reception to follow at Manny's
in Ironwood. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery,
Ironwood. Friends may call in the St. Joseph Family Room
at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday. Pallbearers will be Richard and Steven Long,
