Obituary

John Andrew Jarvi, 64, of Ironwood, died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, at his "lake home" at Little Girl's Point. John was born March 22, 1943 in Ironwood, the son of Helen (Reini) Jarvi/Venetjoki and the late Leo Jarvi. He attended Roosevelt Elementary School in Ironwood Township and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1961. On July 7, 1962, he was married to Christine Johnson at Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood by the late Rev. Oliver Hallberg. John was self-employed as an accountant for various businesses, including Nicolet Hardwoods and Gordon Connor, Wayne Nasi Construction, and Ero Nasi Construction. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood and served as its treasurer. His passion was spending time with his family and friends both in town and at their lake home. Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Chris, and two sons, Richard C. "Rick", of Green Bay, Wis., and Jason I. "Jay", of Ironwood; grandchildren, Justin Jarvi, Kalamazoo, and Ashley Jarvi, Ironwood; his mother, Helen Venetjoki, Ironwood; sister, Nancy (Steve) Miskovich, Wakefield; brother, Hannu (Joy) Venetjoki, Ironwood; two nieces, Melissa (Craig) Talsma, Wakefield, and Heather (Justin) Borseth, Painesville; and his faithful dog "Jake". Besides his father, John was preceded in death by a son, John Jr., in 1996. In accordance with John's wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 11 a.m., at Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Francis Strong officiating. A luncheon reception will be held at Manny's immediately following the service. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
