John J. "Jack" Jacisin, 73,
of Ironwood, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at Marquette General Hospital,
surrounded by his loving family. Jack was born Oct. 11, 1939, in Ironwood, son
of the late Michael and Eva (Thebert) Jacisin, attended local schools, and
graduated from Luther L. Wright High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on
Nov. 5, 1956, proudly serving his country aboard the USS McGinty, USS Fletcher,
and USS Shields in the Pacific area and Australia, and was honorably discharged
as a seaman on Oct. 5, 1960. Following his discharge, he returned to
Ironwood where he worked in various odd jobs before moving to Two Rivers, Wis.
where he was employed at Hamilton Manufacturing for three years. Returning to
Ironwood, he was employed at the Wakefield Furniture Co. in Wakefield, worked on
various construction projects, and retired from White Pine Copper Co. after
30-plus years of service as a driller/blaster and belt operator. Jack was a member of Bessemer V.F.W. Post 3673
and the former Ironwood V.F.W. Post 1823, and was an avid Green Bay Packers
fan. He also was a former member of the Aurora Athletic Club and the Norrie
Amateur Sports Club. He loved fishing and Saturday night card games with his
friends. He also enjoyed hunting and spending time at his camp "Iron Gut" in
North Ironwood, as well as woodworking and carving in his shop in his home. He
particularly enjoyed spending quality time with his children and
grandchildren. On Nov. 9, 1961, he was married to the former
Penny Magdziak of Ironwood in Two Rivers. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Anita Jacisin,
of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; two sons, John (Cheryl), Ironwood, and Michael
(Donna), Marquette; three grandchildren, John Jacisin III and Logan Jacisin,
both of Ironwood, and Joseph Jacisin, Marquette; a sister, Katherine O'Brien,
Long Beach, Calif.; brother-in-law, Lloyd Hill, Bessemer; sisters-in-law,
Catherine Jacisin, DePere, Wis., and Jackie Paulson, Beach Park, Ill.; and
numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Jack was preceded in
death by brothers, Thomas O'Brien and Michael Jacisin; and sisters, Lorelei
Elsemore and Marilyn Hill. Out of respect for his wishes, cremation has
taken place. Memorial services will be held Friday, Jan. 4,
at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral
Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Robb Jurkovich, pastor of
Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by the
Ironwood American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard, with luncheon to follow at
Tacconelli's in downtown Ironwood. Condolences may be given to Jack's family
