John M. Innes, 70 of Cedar, died Sunday,
November 21, 2010 in Ashland.
He was born January 23, 1940 in Ashland,
Wis., son of the late Marvin and Barbara (Barr) Innes and graduated from Saxon
High School in 1958.
After graduating, John enlisted in the
Army. He was stationed in Germany and
was later honorably discharge.
John worked in
construction, operating heavy equipment and paving the interstate on a concrete
paver down in the Milwaukee area
On November 30, 1963, John
married the former Kaye Anderson at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Saxon.
In 1969, he and Kaye moved to Cedar. John worked for the American Can and Marathon
Paper Mill in Ashland for eight years.
In 1973, he operated the Frontier Bar and Campgrounds until retiring in
1995.
After retiring, he pursued his favorite
things, hobby farming -- planting corn and pumpkins, woodworking projects,
grooming the snowmobile trails and building a camp. Spending time with his
family, especially his grandchildren, was important to him. Pa Pa John was the best. He and Kaye loved traveling in their RV,
seeing the United States. John really
looked forward to their trips to the south with their friends each spring.
John was a member of the Saxon American
Legion Mercier-Kero Post 371, the White Thunder Riders Snowmobile Club, the Iron
County Recreational Council (which he was one of the co-founders) and St. Ann's
Catholic Church. He was a former board member of the Town of Gurney, town
chairman and sat on the Iron County Board.
Surviving are his wife, Kaye of 47 years;
children Steven (Lisa Nasi), Monica (Dean) Kolpin and Bart (Amy), all of Cedar;
grandchildren, Garett and Grant Innes, Jordan and Austin Kolpin, Isaac and Ava
Innes, all of Cedar; brothers and sisters, George (Shelia), Sun Prairie, Wis.,
Robert (Janet), Cold Springs, MN., Bonnie (Ken) Paskey, Markesan, Wis., Tomas
(Kathy) and David, both of Cedar, and Marvin, Jr., Minneapolis; mother-in-law Rose
Mary Anderson, Saxon; brothers and sisters in-laws Linda (Robert) Hornick,
Conroe, Tex., Brenda (John) Ferkovich, Hudson, Wis., Douglas (Sue) Anderson and
Stuart (Wanda) Anderson, both of Saxon; special friends and traveling companions
for 20 years, Larry and Diane Erickson.
He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends.
John is preceded in death by his parents,
a son Montgomery in 1966, his father-in-law Rodman Anderson, a brother-in-law
Bruce Anderson and a nephew, Bronson Anderson.
The family would like to thank everyone
for their support, best wishes, and help driving to Duluth for John's chemo and
radiation appointments during his 19 month battle with brain
cancer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated Sat. Nov. 27, at noon, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Saxon, with
the Rev. Paul Pare, OSM, celebrant.
Military honors will be conducted by the
Saxon American Legion Mercier-Kero Post 371
Rite of Committal will
take place in the Lakeview Cemetery, Saxon, immediately following the
service.
Upon the return from the cemetery, a
luncheon will follow at the Saxon Community Building.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon
at the church.
