Joel J. Hochstein, 74, of
Montreal, Wis., passed away into the loving arms of his Lord on Sunday, July 28,
2013, at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay. He had been a resident of San Luis Nursing Home in
Green Bay.
Joel was born Sept. 25, 1938, in Calumet,
Mich., son of the late Joseph and Doris Hochstein, and grew up in Hubbell, Mich.
surrounded by a host of family. He attended St. Cecelia's Catholic Grade School
through the eighth grade and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hubbell, serving
Mass through his college years, and graduated from Dollar Bay High School in
1956. He then attended Northland College in Ashland, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in education in 1962, and taught math and coached
basketball in Cornell, Wis. for 11 years. Prior to moving to Montreal in 1972,
Joel received a master's degree in guidance counseling from Stout State
University in Menomonie, Wis. in 1971. Starting in 1972, he worked as a sales
representative for C-Z Chemical Co. of Beloit, Wis., and later for Dalco Corp. of
Minneapolis, retiring in 1998. He then focused his interests in gardening,
camping, enjoying the beauty of nature and helping his neighbors. Joel was an avid sportsman his entire life and
especially enjoyed bird hunting with his beloved dog Rye. He was a member of St.
Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, Wis. He was married to Pat Reardon on June 29,
1963, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Ashland. Surviving are his wife, Pat, of 50 years; son,
Daniel (Joanne), L'Anse, Mich.; daughters, Sherri (Mark) Meglic, Green Bay, and
Shelly Frank, Milton, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Dana, Nicholas and Nathan
Hochstein, Corinne and Joel Meglic, and Ethan and Jared Frank; sisters-in-law,
Christine (Allen) Radliff, Waunakee, Wis., and Marilyn Reardon, Ironwood, Mich.;
and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Besides his parents, Joel was predeceased by
his in-laws, Jack and Eileen Reardon; and brother-in-law, Jack Reardon
Jr. Per his wishes, cremation has taken
place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated Saturday, Aug. 3, at 11 a.m., preceded
by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev.
Frank Kordek OFM, celebrant. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in
St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joel's memory
may be made to St. Mary's Church, 404 Iron St., Hurley, WI 54534. Joel's obituary can be viewed online and
