Jeannie M. Dehnicke, 87, of
Mercer, died peacefully Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, surrounded by her loving family,
at Seasons of Life Hospice House in Woodruff, WI. The former Jeannie Roessler was born March 22,
1924, in Chicago, daughter of the late Harry and Anna (Berg) Roessler, and
graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, Ill. She moved to Mercer from
Glenview, Ill. in 1967, and together with her husband Don Dehnicke, who she
married on April 20, 1977, owned and operated the Wagon Wheel Resort on Lake of
the Falls in Mercer. Don preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 1979. Jeannie was employed as intake coordinator
with Nicolet Area Technical College in Rhinelander from 1971-1988. Her
community and volunteer services included supervisor of the Mercer town board
for 12 years ( first woman in Mercer to serve as supervisor on town
board) and member of the Mercer planning commission, 12 year member of the
Mercer Chamber of Commerce, serving as president, secretary, special events
coordinator, and organizer and secretary of the MECCA cross country ski race,
Mercer liaison to the Iron County Development Zone Council, administrator for
the Mercer revolving loan fund program, and 25 years of service to Girl Scouts
USA-Glenview, Ill. Girl Scout Council and Birch Trails Girl Scout Council of
Wausau. She was also a member of the Mercer United Methodist Church, its
administrative council, and choir. Surviving are a son, Darryl (Mary) Klein,
Vernon Hills, Ill.; daughter, Pamela Klein, Wauconda, Ill.; three grandchildren;
six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Jeannie was
preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Korpan, on April 20, 1999; brother,
Edward Roessler; and two sisters, Bertha Johnson and Madeline
Jackson. Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has
taken place. There will be no visitation. A memorial service in celebration of Jeannie's
life will be held Saturday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m., at the Mercer United Methodist
Church, 2679 Co. Hwy J, in Mercer, with the Rev. Kathy Huneywell, pastor,
officiating. Luncheon will follow in the church fellowship
hall. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park in
Libertyville, Ill. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may
