Jean M. Simonich, 87, of 212 Norfolk St., Ironwood, died unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 25, 2009, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, Minn. The former Jean Pascoe was born Aug. 9, 1921, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Joseph and Frances (Holecheck) Pascoe, attended the A.L. Norrie Grade School, and graduated from St. Ambrose High School in 1939. She married Rudolph J. Simonich in July of 1940 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood. He preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 1968. Following the death of her husband, Jean worked as a secretary at Ironwood Catholic Grade School for one year. She then attended cosmetology school in Marquette and was a self-employed beauty operator in her home for many years, retiring in June, 2008. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, and was a self-taught artist. She loved to play cards with her friends and go to the casino in Odanah and play bingo. Jean loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a strong faith in God, and will be deeply missed by her friends and family. Surviving are two daughters, Bonnie (Ken) Wainio, Ironwood, and Sister Lynne Marie Simonich, Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross, Spring Green, Wis.; a son, Joe (Diane), Kimball, Wis.; six grandchildren, Beth (Willy) Huotari, Ironwood, Heather Menghini, Norway, Cory (Annie) Wainio, Bessemer, Tara (Jon) Emig, Wausau, Wis., Leah (Chris) Koski, Ironwood, and Lauren Simonich, Kimball; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Lucille Carlson, Laguna Woods, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends; and her faithful mutt, "Max", who never left her side. Besides her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Pascoe, and a sister, Inez Hendrickson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Feb. 28, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Darryl Pepin, celebrant, and the Rev. Michael Hayden, con-celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church. Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Relatives and friends may call in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Pallbearers will be Dick DeZur, Chris Patritto, Ken Wainio, Ed Baginski, Ken Stasiak and Chris Winchowski.
