Jean A.
Lepore, 78, of Hurley, died Saturday, April 28, 2012, at home, after a ten year
battle with ovarian cancer. She was born Sept. 1,
1933, in Bessemer, Mich., daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Dell'Acqua)
Michela, and graduated from A.D. Johnston High School in 1951. She attended the
College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn. and graduated with a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Nursing in 1955 and was a Certified Public Health Nurse. She
worked as a school nurse in the Bessemer Area Schools from 1955-1960 and later
for Iron County Nursing Service for 17 years. Jean was a member of
St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hurley, St. Ann's Catholic Church, Saxon,
the Hurley Lionettes, and the Iron County Cancer Society. She served two terms on the Board of Directors of the College
of St. Scholastica Alumni Association and received the St. Scholastica Sister
Timothy Kirby Benedictine Spirit Award. She was a very loving and
devoted wife, mother and grandmother who always put others' needs before her
own. Jean married Dr. Theodore
Lepore on Aug. 23, 1958, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Bessemer. He
survives. Also surviving are three
daughters, Anna (Chuck) Hockenbery, Onalaska, Jeanne Christiansen, West Salem,
and Lisa (Brad) Ekman, Saxon; five grandchildren, Steven and James Christiansen,
Dana Wilder, and Jill and Adam Hockenbery; three great-grandchildren; a
sister-in-law, Lorraine Michela; many nieces and nephews; and good friends,
Therese Kitzman and Dorothy Harma. Besides her parents, Jean
was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Domenic Michela;
sisters-in-law, Genevieve Michela, Rita Lepore, and Frances Tomasso;
brothers-in-law, Ralph Lepore and John Tomasso; nephews, Joseph and Charles
Michela and William Serritella; niece, Sandra Cascella; and special friend,
Gretchen Erspamer. A Mass of Christian Burial
will be celebrated Tuesday, May 1, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 9:30
a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Frank
Kordek OFM, celebrant. Rite of Committal will
take place at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish
hall. Private interment will be
in Hillcrest Cemetery, Bessemer. Pallbearers will be Kyle,
Scott and Ryan Michela, James Fredrickson, and Peter and Paul
Sturgul. In lieu of flowers,
memorials are preferred to Hope Animal Shelter or the American Cancer
