Obituary

Jean A. Erickson, 84, a longtime Ironwood Township, Mich. resident, died Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, in Hurley.      The former Jean Anderson was born Dec. 28, 1924, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Clarence and Eva (Swanson) Anderson. She attended Ironwood and Ironwood Township schools, graduating from Luther L. Wright High School in 1943.      She married Lawrence A. Erickson on Aug. 30, 1947. He preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 2001.      Jean worked for the Lilliquist Insurance Agency in Ironwood, Lutey's Flower shop, and Superior Audio Visual Co. for 34 years. She and her husband Lawrence celebrated 50 years of marriage on Aug. 30, 1997.      She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church at Little Girl's Point, where she was church organist for 26 years, taught Sunday School for 12 years, and was a member of the Ladies Aid Group where she held offices of chairman, vice-chairman, secretary and treasurer. She and her husband became foster parents to Michael and Jody O'Leary upon the death of their parents.      Surviving are a son, Larry (Marcia), Becker, Minn.; a daughter, Karen Buckallew, Lyman, Wyo.; four grandchildren, Jaime (Dan) Putzier, Rochester, Minn., Christopher (Nicole) Erickson, Big Lake, Minn., Matt Erickson, Becker, and Sara (Douglas) Fish, Lyman; four great-grandchildren, Carter and Chase Erickson and Meagan and Chelsea Putzier; two foster children, Michael (Dawn) O'Leary, Ironwood Township, and Jody (Pat) Donahue, Ishpeming, Mich.; a brother, Jim (Karen) Anderson, Marquette, Mich., two sisters, Ruth Rigoni, Kimball, and Sue (Frank) Wilson, Ironwood Township; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and brothers-and-sisters-in-law, Roy and Donna Erickson, Utica, Mich., Rod and Rochelle Erickson, Ironwood Township, Tom and Dorothy Erickson, Ironwood, Alice Anderson, Ironwood Township, and Carole Anderson, Neenah.      Besides her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by two children, Donald and Laureen, in infancy; a son-in-law, John Buckallew; four brothers, Harley, Kenneth, Donald and Bill Anderson; and a sister, Shirley O'Leary.      Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Little Girl's Point, with the Rev. Wesley "Bo" Baumeister, officiating.      Committal will take place at the church, with luncheon to follow in the church fellowship hall.      Interment will be in Sunset Acres Cemetery, Ironwood Township.      Relatives and friends may call at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N.
