Janice J. "Jannie" Machac, 68, of 829 Sutherland Ave., Ironwood, died unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, in her home. The former Janice Mayo was born July 24, 1939, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Clyde and Rosanna (Mercier) Mayo, attended Roosevelt School, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1957. She worked in Chicago for a short time, waitressed at the Gallery Bar and Restaurant on US 2 in Bessemer Township, and tended bar at Whisper's and the Midway in Ironwood. Janice was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. She enjoyed bowling and playing darts, upholstery work, and crafts. On Dec. 6, 1978, she married James T. Machac in Lake Tahoe, Nev. He survives. Also surviving are a son, Steven (Theresa) Ravanelli, Skandia; four daughters, JoAnn (Rick) Cricks, Green Bay, Wis., Terry Luoma, St. Paul, Minn., and Michele (Jeffrey) Wilber and Paula (Dan) Funke, both of Ontonagon; eleven grandchildren, Maureen (Jason) Marohnic and Melissa (Aaron) Schenk, both of Pulaski, Wis.; Jessie Luoma (Adam), Minneapolis; Emilie and Natalie Ravanelli, both of Marquette; and Jenna Sharkey, Taylor and Michael Wilber, and Elijah, Danielle and Jamie Funke, all of Ontonagon; two step-grandsons, Christopher Wilber, Ann Arbor, and Kyle Wilber, Ontonagon; four great-grandchildren, Zachery, Matthew, Jaylin and Jordaine; two brothers, Clyde (Michele) Mayo Jr., Gilman, Ill., and Paul (Ruth) Mayo, Ontonagon; two sisters, Pearl (Henry Koivunen) Hill, Ironwood Township and Livonia, and Claudette (Charles) Hall, Gardnerville, Nev.; two sisters-in-law, Pat Belanger, West Bend, Wis., and Susan Caruso, Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins. Besides her parents, Janice was preceded in death by a sister, Opal Mussatti; and four brothers-in-law, Louis Caruso, Vernon Hill, Francis Belanger, and Charles Mussatti. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Jan. 23, at noon, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Raymond Moncher, celebrant. Rite of Committal will be held in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall. Cremation will take place. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Relatives and friends may call in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church beginning at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Jessie Luoma, Maureen Marohnic, Emilie Ravanelli, Jenna Sharkey, Jamie Funke, and Taylor and Michael Wilber.
