Obituary

On March 15, 2007, God called home a devoted follower, James J. Skoviera, 68, of Superior, Wis., following a courageous battle with cancer, in Superior. He was born Nov. 4, 1938, in Ironwood, Mich., son of the late John and Viola (Lantta) Skoviera, and grew up in Iron Belt, Wis., where he graduated from Iron Belt High School in 1956. He then attended two years of college at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. In 1977, he completed addiction counseling training and began working for the State of Minnesota in Fergus Falls. He became a supervisor and left in 1989 moving to Superior, where he joined Ashland Treatment Center until 2004, when he opened Memorial Medical Treatment Center. Over the last 30 years, he helped people find their faith and a path to a better way of life. He attended Great Lakes Gospel Church in Duluth. Surviving are a son, Jon (Lindsey), Melbourne, Fla.; two grandchildren, Brett and Ellise, Melbourne; a brother, George (Charlotte), Hudson, Wis.; two sisters, Suzanne (Arnold) Kero, Saxon, and Elaine Skoviera, Iron Belt; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 24, at 11 a.m., at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Tim Coppersmith, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ironwood, officiating. Spring burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Iron Belt. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Arrangements are with McKevitt-Patrick and Engstrom Funeral and Cremation Services of Ironwood and Hurley.
