James J. Robleski, 72, of
14219N Curry Rd., Saxon, Wis., died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at St. Luke's
Hospital in Duluth, with his family by his side. He was born April 5, 1937, in Ashland, Wis.,
son of the late Dominic and Rose (Shaybel) Robleski, and attended Saxon and
Gurney, Wis. schools. He worked on area farms and did private logging for local
contractors for a short time. Jim was then employed in construction and
mining at White Pine Copper Co., in uranium mines in Grants, N.M., and on
pipelines in Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota. A 29-year member of Iron Workers
Local 563 out of Duluth, he retired in 1993. He
was a former member of Iron Workers Local 783 out of Marquette, Mich., and
Laborer's Local 1329 out of Iron
Mountain, Michigan. Jim raced stock cars in the 1950's and 1960's,
and enjoyed working with his sawmill, gardening and restoring old tractors and
trucks in his retirement. Surviving are a daughter, Julie Robleski,
Ironwood, Mich.; two sons, Robbie and James D., both of Saxon; three
grandchildren, Kathleen Robleski, Iron Belt, Wis., and Brenda (Steve)
Worthington and Heather Higgins, both of Ironwood; a great-granddaughter, Paige
Santiago; a twin sister, Jean Robleski, Saxon; a brother-in-law, Eugene Sunie,
Ashland; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death
by a sister, Elizabeth Sunie; his stepfather, Toivo Torkko; and his
grandparents, Joseph and Elizabeth Shaybel. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has
taken place. A memorial gathering in celebration of Jim's
life will be held Thursday. Jan. 7, 2010, from 3 to 5 p.m., at the
McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood. A reception will follow at the Aurora Athletic
