Obituary

James Anthony "Jim" Paremsky, 69, of 230 W. Frederick St., Ironwood, died early Thursday morning, June 14, 2007, at his home. Jim was born Dec. 10, 1937, in Bessemer, son of Cecelia (Poremski) and the late Michael Paremsky, and lived in both Bessemer and Ironwood while growing up. He graduated from A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer with the Class of 1955. Three days after graduating, Jim and several of his classmates joined the U.S. Air Force. He served in Texas, Illinois, and Germany, and was discharged in 1958. He then was employed by LaBlonde's Service and Sales. In Nov. of 1959, Jim entered the U.S. Army and served until 1968 when he was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant. During this span, he served two tours of duty in Korea and another tour in Germany. On Aug. 24, 1963, Jim was married to Kay Marie Baluha at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ironwood by the late Rev. Ambrose Matejik. He and his family settled in Ironwood after his discharge from the service. He then went to work at White Pine Copper Co. as an underground mechanic, retiring due to a back injury in 1988. Jim was a member of Ironwood American Legion Post 5, AARP, and the NRA. He enjoyed sports, either live or on TV, general fix-it repair, playing softball in his younger years, and reading. He was an avid Packer hater, and always stuck up for the other team. Surviving are his wife, Kay, of Ironwood; two daughters, Debbie (Dennis) Aspinwall, Bessemer Township, and Kathy (David) Schwab, Ironwood; four grandchildren, Dennis Ian and Andy Aspinwall, and Alyssa and Sean Schwab; his mother, Cecelia Tirpik, Bessemer; a brother, Donald (Carol) Paremsky, Rathdrum, Idaho; a step-brother, Chuck (Sharon) Tirpik, Burke, Idaho; sisters-in-law, Barbara Pontillo, Winthrop Harbor, ILL, and Kathleen Shults, Winter Haven, Fla.; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; and his special friend, his cat "T.C." Besides his father, Jim was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Paremsky, and his step-father, Charles Tirpik. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, June 19, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Darryl J. Pepin, presider. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood, where full military rites will be accorded by the Ironwood American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard. Luncheon will be served in the parish hall immediately upon return from the cemetery. Relatives and friends may call in the St. Joseph family Room at the church beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Dennis Aspinwall, David Schwab, Donald Paremsky, Tim Schwab, Denny Aspinwall, and Ron Pelkola.
