Obituary

Homer Marander, 89, of Ironwood, passed away peacefully Sunday morning Feb. 7, 2016, at Westgate Nursing, Rehabilitation and Assisted Living Community in Ironwood, following  a short illness.      He was born Dec,1, 1926, in Ironwood, son of Herman Marander and Marie (Kleimola) (Marander) Brottlund. He graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1944. Soon after, he joined the U.S. Army and proudly served in the Philippines and the occupation of Japan. Homer returned from the war to work for three years in Kenosha, Wis. at American Brass Works. Returning to Ironwood, he took care of his mother and step-father until their deaths. He worked at Sears Garage and as a carpenter and roofer much of his life.      Homer never had children of his own but was cherished by his many nieces and nephews that he helped nurture and extended his kindness and generosity upon.      He is survived by a sister, Barbara Booker; special friend, Grace "Dolly" Wasley; nieces and nephews, Dave (Lydia) Booker, Pam (Gale) Rigotti, Ron (Cheri) Marander, Jeff (Jackie) Marander, Mia (David) Schwandt, Sherry (Steve) Kroll, Scott (Jolene) Brottlund, Brian (Tracy) Brottlund, Russ (Melissa) Brottlund, Linda (Robert) Boll, Brenda (Ben) Sweetapple, Carol (Russ) Dahlgren, Marilyn (William) Miller, Denise Rice, William Feyerabend Jr. and Paul Feyerabend; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.      Homer was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Wendell Marander, Keith Marander, Donald Marander and Arthur Brottlund; sister, Dorothy Feyerabend; and nephews Dan Marander and James Feyerabend.      Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 13, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at Salem Lutheran Church, 333 E. Aurora St., in Ironwood, with Pastor Kurt Kovanen officiating.      Full military honors will follow, accorded by the Ironwood American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard.      Private committal and interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood, in the spring.      In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Salem Lutheran Church.      Arrangements are with McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, Inc., Ironwood.
