Helen L. Minkin, 91, of Hurley, and a former longtime Erwin
Township, Ironwood resident, died Thursday, April 12, 2012, in Ironwood.
The former Helen Finco was born May 12, 1920, in Ironwood,
daughter of the late Casper and Adele (Jurasin) Finco. She worked in a defense
plant during World War II in Cleveland, Ohio, and was employed at the Hansen
Glove Factory in Ironwood and Sell's Tour Guide in Bessemer. Helen was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in
Ironwood. She enjoyed needlepoint and going to the casino, and especially
enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. An excellent cook and
baker, she was known for her homemade ravioli's and antipasto. She was also
primary caregiver to her brother, Joe Finco. On Oct. 3, 1951, she married Robert Minkin in Ironwood. He
preceded her in death on June 2, 1999. Surviving are two sons, Rick (Debbie), Bessemer, and Jim
(Sharon) Negrini, Eau Claire, Wis.; a daughter, Rita (Lawrence) Kapugia,
Wakefield; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death
by a son, Randy; grandson, Judd Slining; four brothers, John, Henry, Anton and
Joseph Finco; and four sisters, Anna Gottardo, Adele Negrini, Kay Bauman and
Louise Williams. Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place and
private family services were held. Private interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.
