Helen
Beauchamp Kolson, 104, of Ironwood, died peacefully Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, on
the 25th anniversary of her husband's death, at Westgate Nursing,
Rehabilitation, and Assisted Living Community in Ironwood. She was born Dec. 2,
1907, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Edmond and Emma (Blair) Beauchamp, and
graduated from St. Ambrose High School in 1925. She was employed as a
secretary to attorneys Everis and Marion Reed in Hurley, Wis. for 16 years, and
as office manager at Bresnan Cable in Ironwood, retiring in 1979. Helen was a member of Our
Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, the former Holy Trinity Catholic
Church and its Altar Society, and AARP. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting,
gardening and flowers. At the age of 100, she discovered her passion for
bingo at Westgate, and particularly enjoyed the parties there with
Dorothy and the Boys and the Ranch Boys. She was especially appreciative of the
staff and friends she met at Westgate. On Sept. 7, 1936, Helen
married George J. Kolson at St. Stephen's Church in Milwaukee. George
preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 1988. Surviving are four
daughters, Joanne Burgess, Wheeling, Ill., Marianne (Jeff) Drake, Grand Blanc,
and Florence Kolson and Carolyn (David) Kolson-Janov, both of Manitowish Waters,
Wis.; three grandchildren, Kelly (Matthew) Mayer, Chicago, Melanie (Brent)
Pankey, Brighton, and Sean Burgess, Chicago; three great-grandchildren, Andrew
and Jack Mayer, and Matthew Pankey; and numerous nieces and
nephews. Besides her parents and
husband, Helen was preceded in death by six brothers, Leo, Henry, Francis,
Ernest, Arthur and Clarence Beauchamp; and a sister, Lema Tiradani. A Mass of Christian Burial
will be celebrated Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 11 a.m., preceded by
visitation in the St. Joseph Family Room at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Church
in Ironwood, with the Rev. Robb Jurkovich, celebrant. Rite of Committal and
interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Lunch will be served at
Tacconelli's in downtown Ironwood immediately upon return from the
cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Janov, Jeff Drake, Thomas Kerkes, Matthew Mayer and Brent Pankey. Condolences may be given
