Gordon J. Halverson, 81, of 137 E. Ash St., Ironwood, Mich., went to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, while surrounded by his family. He fought a courageous battle with lymphoma and the complications that occurred with it.      Gordy was born on Dec. 14, 1928, in Ironwood, son of the late John and Agnethe (Larsen) Halverson, attended Sleight and Norrie schools, and graduated from L.L. He played baseball for the Ironwood Royals and played for numerous softball teams, and was a member of the state runner-up fast pitch softball team, Schiavetti's Bar in 1955. He also enjoyed hunting and trout fishing. One of his great passions was enjoying watching his grandchildren play sports and participate in their many activities. He was always eager and willing to help family and friends.      Gordy married the love of his life, Virginia Haralson, on Jan. 5, 1952. They made a loving family with four children.      Surviving are his wife, Virginia, of 58 years; children, Gordon "Chip" (Joyce), Clayton, Wis., Scott (Debbie), Poynette, Wis., Mark, Hurley, Wis., and Jan (Dan) Swetkovich, Pence, Wis.; grandchildren, Crystal Engel, Jason Halverson, J.J. Engel, Emmeline Engel and Jordan Rivette; a sister-in-law, Irene Halverson, Ironwood; a brother-in-law, Clayton (Winnie) Haralson, Lake Linden, MI; numerous nieces and nephews; and his special friend, his Yorkshire Terrier "Misty".      Besides his parents, Gordy was preceded in death by a daughter, Gayle; brothers, Gene Halverson and Clyde Livingston; and a daughter-in-law, Kathy.      Out of respect for Gordy's wishes, cremation has taken place.      Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5104 E. Margaret St., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Wesley "Bo" Baumeister officiating.      Committal will take place at the church, with luncheon to follow in the church fellowship hall.      Private interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.      Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.      To view Gordy's obituary online, sign the guestbook and express condolences, visit mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.      Arrangements are entrusted to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood.      2 Corinthians 4:18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.
