Obituary

Goldie (Newby) Miller of Hurley, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at the age of 87.      She was born March 7, 1924, in Glasgow, Montana, the second of 11 children born to Robert and Mable Newby. She lived in Prince Albert, Canada, on the Snake River in Idaho, and in Washington State. She met and married Kermith (Hank) Miller in Bemidji, Minn. during World War II when he was in the Navy. The family moved to Hurley in 1956 where Goldie lived an active life and enjoyed the company of her many friends.      During her lifetime, Goldie enjoyed walking, knitting and baking her famous "Goldie Bread".      She will be sadly missed by her children, Jean Gatton, Milwaukee, Gary (Marilyn) Miller, Sheboygan, and Jack Miller, Seattle, Wash., as well as her daughter-in-law, Julie Petterson. Grandma Goldie will be missed by her eight grandsons, Patrick (Kelly) Gatton, Timothy (LeNee) Gatton, Thaddeus (Heather) Gatton, Troy (Angela) Miller, Jason (Megan) Miller, Darin (Priyanka) Miller, Jacob Miller and John Miller. Goldie was blessed with 10 great-grandchildren.      She is survived by eight siblings, Eleanor Bielas, Battle Ground, Wash., Harve Newby and Delbert (Mary) Newby, both of Bemidji, Bonnie Osborn, Independence, Mo., Fred Newby, Palm Springs, Calif., Charlotte (Paul) Rose, West Branson, Mo., Shirley (Don) Belcher, Lansing, Ks., Tom (Joyce) Newby, Nevada, Mo., and sister-in-law, Lois Miller, Bemidji.        Goldie was predeceased by her husband, Kermith (Hank) Miller; son, Kurt Miller; her parents; brother, Robert Newby; and sister, Wanda Newby.      Out of respect for Goldie's wishes, cremation has taken place.      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, preceded by visitation beginning at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Frank Kordek OFM, celebrant.      Rite of Committal will take place at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall.      Spring inurnment will be in the Hurley Cemetery.      In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the VFW or Wounded Warriors.      Goldie's obituary can be viewed online and condolences given to her family at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.      Arrangements are entrusted to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood.      Goldie's family would like to thank the staff of Sky View Nursing Center for the wonderful care she received there.
