Geraldine A. "Geri" Levra, 74, of 602 6th Ave. No. Hurley, died Saturday evening, March 21, 2009, in Ironwood, surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous battle with cancer. The former Geraldine O'Leary was born Sept. 26, 1934, in Hurley, daughter of the late James and Ellen (Hill) O'Leary, attended school there, and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in 1952. She was employed as a telephone operator for Michigan Bell Telephone Co. in Ironwood for several years. Geri was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley. Her family was her whole life, and she took great pride in following her children's and grandchildren's sporting activities over the years. A caring and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be dearly missed by all. She was married to Lawrence J. Levra on Sept. 26, 1953, at St. Mary's Church in Hurley. He survives. Also surviving are two sons, Duane, Gile, and Jerry, Kimball; six grandchildren, Casey Levra (Heather Mattson), Montreal, Ashley Levra, Lansing, Mich., Daulton and Mitchell Levra, both of Kimball, Carly Levra, Ironwood, and Dylan Levra, Montreal; two great-grandchildren, Kodie and Brayden Levra; two brothers, David and Robert O'Leary, both of Hurley; two sisters, Marilyn Alstead, Duluth, Minn., and Patricia Sopko, Los Angeles, Calif.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and brothers-and-sisters-in-law; and her special and lifelong friend, Rose Marie Rossi, of Hurley. Besides her parents, Geri was preceded in death by a son, Curtis L. "Curt" Levra, Jan. 24, 2009; and two sisters, Joan Oman and Kay Decker. In accordance with Geri's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, March 24, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Michael Hayden, celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall. Relatives and friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
