Geraldine B. "Gerry" Anderson,
85, of Montreal, died unexpectedly Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, in her
home. The former Geraldine Kopacz was born June 28,
1927, in Montreal, daughter of the late Walter and Julia (Hoholek) Kopacz,
attended Montreal schools, and graduated from J. E. Murphy High School in Hurley
in 1945. She was employed as a secretary for the Montreal Mining Co. for a short
time, then began a 35-year career as a sales clerk for the S.S. Kresge Co.,
Jupiter, and K-Mart in Ironwood, Mich., retiring in 1998. In her retirement,
Gerry worked at Arts Unlimited in Hurley for eight years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church
in Hurley and the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montreal and its Altar
Society. Renowned as an excellent cook, especially for her spaghetti sauce,
Gerry's house was open to all, and no one left hungry. She was also an avid
knitter in her younger years. A very generous and caring person, Gerry always
put others before herself. She will be dearly missed. On Feb. 3, 1951, she was married to Donald S.
Anderson at Sacred Heart Church in Montreal by the late Fr. Kolman. Donald
preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 2008. Surviving are a daughter, Jaret (Paul)
Luppino, Iron Belt; five grandchildren, Casey Bergquist, Las Vegas, Gabrielle
(Kevin) Kivi, Rhinelander, Julia (Troy) Salzman, Wausau, Chase Anderson (Roberta
White), Wakefield, Mich., and Taylor (Donald) Kirby, Ironwood; six
great-grandchildren, Cooper and Kenly Anderson, Kira Kirby, Lynnea and Leo Kivi,
and Jordy Salzman; daughter-in-law, Anna Anderson, Ironwood; sisters-in-law,
Helmi Anderson, Kimball, and Marcella Verbovanec and Laverne Keagy, both of
Ironwood; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, to include special niece, Joanne
Sullivan, and great-nephew, Robert Sullivan, both of Montreal; and special
friends, Joe and Karen Walta, Margaret Gulan, and Deke and Michelle Pozzani, all
of Montreal. Besides her parents and husband, Gerry was
preceded in death by two sons, Donald "Buttons", on Feb. 4, 1981, and Daryl
"Dewey", on Dec. 19, 1991; seven brothers, Joseph, Steven, Walter "Vako",
Chester, Edward, Eugene and John Kopacz; and three sisters, Amelia Studden, Mary
Beres, and Frances Udee. Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has
taken place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Friday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's
Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Frank Kordek OFM,
celebrant. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in
St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley. Lunch will be served in the parish hall
immediately upon return from the cemetery. Gerry's obituary may be viewed online and
