George F. LaVerdure Jr., 59, of Ironwood, and formerly of
Hurley, Wis., died Thursday, July 29, 2010, in Ironwood. George was born Oct. 29, 1950, in Ironwood,
son of the late George and Ann (Kioski) LaVerdure, and lived with his parents in
Hurley until his dad's death in 1993. Under the loving care of Deb Bastman, his
guardian, he resided at the Peterson Health Care Center and Maple Park Group
Home in Rhinelander, Wis. for 14 years, before moving to Westgate Nursing,
Rehabilitation, and Assisted Living Community in Ironwood in 2007. While in
Rhinelander, George was very involved in Special Olympics, and enjoyed fishing,
Milwaukee Brewers baseball and his beloved Green Bay Packers. He was
dearly loved by all of his caregivers in Rhinelander and Ironwood. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Hurley. Surviving are his guardian and special
friends, Deb and Ray Bastman, Ironwood, Paul Sturgul, Hurley, and Cindy
Chartier, Montreal, Wis. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Tuesday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the
Rev. Michael Hayden, celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place at the
church, with luncheon to follow at the Iron Nugget in downtown
Hurley. Private inurnment will be in St. Mary's
