Obituary

Gayle Karyn Mrdjenovich, 78, of 404 Bernard St., Hurley, passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at the Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley, where she had been a resident for a short time.      Mrs Mrdjenovich was born Dec. 10, 1931 in Montreal, Wis., daughter of the late Helmer and Elsie Holgers. She attended school in Montreal and Hurley where she excelled in academics and music. Gayle graduated with honors from the Hurley High School in 1949.      Upon graduation, she became the administrative assistant to the superintendent of the Hurley School District and later served as the court stenographer for the Iron County court system for a number of years before resigning to become a devoted mother.      On July 11, 1953 she was married to Steve Mrdjenovich at the First Presbyterian Church in Hurley by the late Rev. C.L. Harries. They were married 39 years; he preceded her in death on Feb. 7, 1992.      Gayle loved music and had a beautiful voice, she could be heard singing many of the old standards. Gayle also taught herself to play piano and organ, and was a wonderful artist when prompted to draw! She was a fabulous cook, seamstress and baker. Her biggest joy and passion in life was caring for her family and husband.      Surviving are two sons, Paul D. and his friend Andrene Peterson of Hurley, and Steven (Mary) of Maple Grove, Minn., and a daughter, Patrice Mrdjenovich-Hanks (Darrel) of Rochester, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Zachary, Megan, Daniel, Virginia, Maranda, Marcus and Holly; and two brothers, Robert (Fran) Holgers of Eveleth, Minn. and Alan (Valerie) Holgers of Bend, Ore. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.      Private family services will be held.      Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.      Memorial contributions may be made to the Hurley Education Foundation in care of Paul Mrdjenovich, 404 Bernard St., Hurley, Wis. 54534.      Gayle's obituary may be viewed online and condolences given to her family at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.      Arrangements are entrusted to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home Inc., Ironwood.
