Gail K. Paternoster, 91, of Hurley, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at the Villa Maria Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Gail was born on July 7, 1935, in Montreal, Wisconsin, to Sanford and Mayme (Bay) Soine. She was a 1953 graduate of J.E. Murphy High School. On August 18, 1956, Gail was united in marriage with Victor Paternoster at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hurley.
Gail was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and served as president of the Women’s Council for many years. She enjoyed bowling, cooking, and traveling, especially when sharing those adventures with her sisters and friends. Gail had a warm and caring nature and cherished the many friendships she made throughout her life. Above all, she treasured the time she spent with her family and took great joy in being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Gail is survived by her sons, Michael (Tami) of Pence and Rob (Judy) of Kimball; sisters, Genna Scamfer and Minerva (Dan) Stephani; brother-in-law, Robert Turk; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Kim (Steve) Binz and their children, Ethan and Emma; Tracy (Dylan Laurin) Romanowski and their children, Breanna and Colt; Jauntae (Joe) Ruza and their children, Jack, Beckham, and Brooks; Molly Rodier and her children, Jayden and Rylan; Bobbi Jo (Matt) Lawson and their children, Andrew and a baby due in December; Kyle Paternoster, Cory Paternoster; Ryan Eilo; Eric (Samantha) Paternoster and their children, Michael and Dean; and Amy (Alex) Paternoster and their children, Brangdin, Brentley, Xela, and Ryder. Gail is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Victor; son and daughter-in-law, Gary (Chris) Paternoster; brother and sister-in-law, Gordon (Doris) Soine; sister, Karen Turk; brother-in-law, Robert Scamfer; and infant granddaughter, Pretty Patty.
Visitation for Gail will be held on Saturday, October 17, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hurley, with Fr. Raj Sunkura officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff at Villa Maria Health & Rehabilitation Center for the compassionate care and kindness they showed Gail.
