Frederick Joseph Hofer II, 82, of Mercer, WI, passed away unexpectedly on December 9th, 2023.

Frederick was born November 24th, 1941, in Chicago, IL, to Frederick Joseph and Grace (Sexton) Hofer I.

A graduate of Gage Park High School in Chicago, IL, Frederick moved on to a wonderful career in law enforcement, working for the Hometown Police Department, Crestwood Police Department, Midlothian Police Department, The Cook County State's Attorney office and then finishing his career as a fraud investigator for metropolitan life.

He had many hobbies, including his loving family, fishing, hunting, restoring classic cars, repairing clocks and watches, and construction storytelling with light embellishing.

He was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was also a proud Boy Scouts of America member, earning the highest Eagle Scout award with Bronze, Silver, and Gold Palms and also an Order of the Arrow inductee.

Both his brother Raymond Hofer and son Tony preceded him in passing.

He is survived by his wife, Clare (Langhamer) Hofer, sons Frederick Hofer III and Russell T. Hofer, daughter Debbie (Matt) Manka, and daughter-in-law Linda Hofer.

A small private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of donations or flowers the family requests that you consider buying a Christmas gift for a child in need and hold your loved ones close this holiday season.
